Course Information

During this course, students will acquire applicable economic skills like knowledge of supply and demand, Ricardian trade theory, the loanable funds market, savings and investor accounts, offshore banking, opportunity cost, marginal returns, interest rates, incentives, game theory/behavioral economics, surplus, cost benefit analysis, and externalities. This course will have a focus on general economics with extensive applications in the real world.

Johnson Che

Hi, my name is Johnson Che, a sophomore at Bellarmine College Preparatory. I have been doing economics for around 4 years now, and am the leader of the Bellarmine Economics club. Along with finishing AP Macroeconomics and Microeconomics, I am also Lean Six Sigma certified with accreditations in operations management. In addition, I rank number 2 in California in the National Economics Challenge, and am a 2 time state finalist. In addition, my teaching experience includes being certified in 15+ subjects on nonprofit program UPchieve with 100+ hours experience, including mentoring robotics teams and partnering with Hope2 Initiative to teach in Guatemala. Besides that, I have interdisciplinary interests in engineering and RPA and am excited to serve as your instructor for this course!

Yash Bhavani

Hi, my name is Yash Bhavani, rising sophomore at Bellarmine College Preparatory. I've been studying economics for the past two years with a particular interest in macroeconomics and Misesian economics. I'm ranked number 2 in California in the National Economics Challenge and have been a state finalist in my first year of Economics-based competitions, and am currently engaging in research with graduate professors at UC Berkeley regarding the crossroads between Economics and CS. Beyond economics, I’m the founder of SPIFFY, a STEM-based service club focused on making technical education accessible through hands-on outreach. My teaching experience includes numerous robotics outreach efforts, from mentoring younger teams, to organizing STEM workshops, as well as Robotics “Museums” for 600+ individuals to experience robotics from a first-person perspective. I have interdisciplinary interests in computer science and quantitative analysis, and I'm excited to bring my passion and energy as your instructor for this course!

This course runs for six weeks, covering key concepts and practical applications.


Week 1: Introduction to economics, economic systems(& 3 key problems)

Problem of scarcity - opportunity cost, cost benefit analysis

Activity- kahoot, make real life decisions based on mock scenarios

Ex. choosing between video game or saving, investing in stocks vs gold, etc.

Week 2: Supply and demand and surplus

Activity- market day simulation

Slideshow where students have shops on their slides, run mock shops and adjust prices based on demand
